Willingness Over Prominence
This Week’s Giving Challenge from Congressman Michael Cloud
In my conversation with Congressman Michael Cloud, one line stayed with me.
The difference between prominence and significance.
Prominence is being seen.
Significance is seeing beyond yourself.
He reminded us that real giving demands sacrifice. It should cost you something - time, attention, comfort - because it is an act of service.
So here’s this week’s Giving Challenge:
Choose one act of willingness.
Not the thing you want to do.
The thing you are willing to do, because it’s needed.
That might look like:
Showing up for someone when it’s inconvenient
Taking responsibility for a task no one wants
Checking in on a neighbor instead of scrolling past
Making space for a real conversation when you’re tired
Doing one quiet act of service with no credit attached
This isn’t about visibility.
It’s about willingness.
For nonprofit leaders, volunteers, fundraisers - and anyone trying to live generously -significance grows in the places where we quietly choose responsibility over recognition.
Consider this your friendly nudge to do what you’re willing to do, for someone else.
That’s this week’s Giving Challenge.
